Kraft South Beach Diet Products - Kraft, Kellogg Show Mixed Earnings Results

Kraft's South Beach Diet portfolio took center stage at the company's fourth quarter earnings report this week, while Kellogg's earnings showed a mix of good and lackluster news when it posted healthy profits but flat sales.

Even as it plans to slash 8000 jobs (about 8% of its workforce), close 20 production plants and continue streamlining unprofitable SKU's, Kraft singled out the South Beach Diet portfolio as a primary growth driver.

It said the line has garnered a whopping $170 million in sales in just ten months, much to the chagrin of industry naysayers who predicted an early death for the line of products that while not as extreme as the Atkins Diet, still relies on carb-control for its efficacy.
